Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred’s family has spoken out following his 10-year prison sentence in France, with his wife Ghita Allaki reaffirming her support for him and his father, singer Bachir Abdou, rejecting the verdict.

Lamjarred, 41, was sentenced on Sept. 26 by the Créteil appeals court to 10 years in prison in the case involving French woman Laura Prioul, who accused him of rape in a Paris hotel in 2016. He had previously been sentenced to six years in prison in 2023. The appeals court also ordered his immediate detention, and Lamjarred was subsequently transferred to Fresnes prison.

Lamjarred has denied the rape allegation. His lawyer Marie Burguburu said after the verdict that he continues to maintain his innocence and that the defense will appeal to France’s Court of Cassation.

His wife says family questioned alleged financial demands

Allaki broke her silence in a lengthy Instagram message published on Sunday, Sept. 27, saying that she remains convinced of her husband’s innocence and will continue to support him through the next stage of the legal proceedings.

She also raised allegations of financial demands made during the years-long case. According to Allaki’s account, the family was asked how much they would pay for Lamjarred’s freedom and was told that he would return to prison if they did not pay.

“We did not pay. And today, he is in jail,” she wrote.

Allaki said the family had provided authorities with material relating to alleged attempts to put a “price” on Lamjarred’s freedom and discussions involving money in exchange for changing statements. She questioned why, in her view, those claims and the material submitted by the family had not received sufficient attention.

Her comments come after a separate French case involving an attempt to extort €3 million from Lamjarred. Five people were convicted in April in connection with that case, while Prioul herself was acquitted after the court found insufficient evidence of criminal intent on her part. The extortion case did not overturn or cancel Lamjarred’s conviction in the rape case.

Allaki also pointed to the years Lamjarred spent under judicial supervision, saying he complied with the conditions imposed on him and returned to France whenever he was allowed to travel.

She said the family had continued to cooperate with authorities and provide information throughout the proceedings, while expressing disappointment with the outcome of the appeal.

Bachir Abdou calls verdict “unjust”

Lamjarred’s father, Bachir Abdou, also reacted shortly after the sentence was handed down.

In a post on Instagram on Sept. 26, he described his son as “wronged” and called the verdict “unjust,” while saying the defense team had presented what he described as clear evidence before the court and prosecutors.

“My son Saad is wronged, wronged, wronged in every sense of the word. An unjust verdict, despite all the clear evidence presented by the defense team before the judge and the prosecution,” Abdou wrote.

He also spoke about what the family was going through, saying that only God knew the extent of the pain he, his wife Nezha, Lamjarred’s wife and her mother were experiencing.

The post drew messages of support from a number of Moroccan artists and public figures, who expressed solidarity with the family and wished Lamjarred well.

A case dating back to 2016

The latest ruling concerns events dating back to October 2016, when Prioul, who was 20 at the time, accused Lamjarred of raping and assaulting her in a Paris hotel after they met at a nightclub.

Lamjarred was initially sentenced to six years in 2023. The appeals proceedings began in Créteil on Sept. 17, following a postponement in 2025 to allow further investigations. The prosecution had requested an eight-year sentence, but the appeals court imposed 10 years.

Lamjarred is also facing a separate legal case in France stemming from an alleged rape near Saint-Tropez in 2018. He was sentenced to five years in prison in that case in May 2026 and has appealed that ruling.

His defense is now preparing to challenge the 10-year sentence before France’s Court of Cassation.
