Nearly half a century after the first research was carried out at the site in the 1970s, the medieval settlement of Belyounech will see a new round of archaeological excavations starting in September 2026. The campaign, jointly led by Morocco’s National Institute of Archaeological Sciences and Heritage and the German Archaeological Institute, aims to document more fully the remains of the 175-hectare settlement at the foot of Jbel Moussa.
