A website founded by the son of General Khaled Nezzar has portrayed the destruction in French cities on October 17 as retaliation by young French-Algerians for the fires in Jijel, allegedly “ordered from Paris”. This is not the first time Algiers has inserted itself into France’s urban unrest. In 2023, following Nahel’s death, it did so through an official government statement.
