While European attention remains riveted on the spectacular assaults on Ceuta and Melilla, the latest figures from the International Organization for Migration reveal a very different reality: Algeria has become the leading source of irregular migration, accounting for 42% of arrivals recorded in Spain between January and April. A methodical, continuous and one-way flow, encouraged by the Algerian regime’s wholesale disengagement and ultimately bound for one destination: France.
