Far beyond its literary legends and cosmopolitan past, Tangier is experiencing a remarkable artistic and museum renaissance. The Targa Ou Madi Dam, currently under construction in Morocco’s Guercif province, is nearing completion, with approximately 90% of the project finished. Set to become a strategic component of the Kingdom’s national water resources policy, the dam will have a storage capacity of 287 million cubic meters. It is expected to strengthen drinking water supply, expand irrigation, generate hydroelectric power, and improve the region’s resilience to water scarcity.

Closed to the public since sustaining damage during the 2021 storms, El Jadida’s Portuguese Citadel is undergoing an extensive MAD 2.5 million restoration project. The 18-month project aims to reinforce and preserve the UNESCO World Heritage landmark.

Morocco’s film industry reached a milestone in 2025, attracting a record MAD 1.21 billion in foreign production spending. The year also saw the completion of 26 Moroccan feature films, while the domestic box office continued its recovery, led by the success of “My Friend” and “Routini.”

Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” attracted 40,000 moviegoers in Morocco during its first week in theaters after its July 15 release. Produced with a $250 million budget and filmed in part at Dakhla’s White Dune, the epic has performed particularly well in IMAX-equipped cinemas.

Morocco will make its official debut at Gamescom 2026, Europe’s largest video game trade fair, with a national pavilion showcasing 11 homegrown studios from Aug. 26 to 30 in Cologne, Germany. Through its first-ever participation, the Kingdom aims to spotlight the strength of its gaming ecosystem, attract international investors and partners, and advance its ambition of becoming a regional gaming hub for Africa and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

The Casablanca Arab Film Festival has unveiled the official selection for its seventh edition, scheduled to take place from July 17 to 24, 2026. Twelve feature films and 17 short films will compete for awards, alongside a panorama section featuring 13 out-of-competition works. Morocco will be represented by “The Ants” by Yassine Fennane, This “Sea Is Mine” by Salem Bilal, and “Behind Closed Curtains” by Kassem Sakli.

Christopher Nolan brings Homer’s epic The Odyssey to the big screen with Matt Damon as Odysseus. The $250 million film, shot partly on Dakhla’s White Dune in southern Morocco, will open July 15 in Morocco and France.

From Sept. 17 to 20, Casablanca’s RUC Stadium will host the 2026 edition of Tremplin L’Boulevard. Fifteen artists and bands selected across three music categories will perform before a live audience and a panel of industry professionals, competing for prizes in a contest dedicated to promoting Morocco’s emerging contemporary music scene.
