At its first appearance at the Marrakech Air Show, held from October 7 to 10, Moroccan Military Industry (MMI) Weapon Systems presented Spear, a mobile mortar system available in 81mm and 120mm calibers. The company highlights its recoil-reduction technology and its ability to become operational within 60 seconds.

Spear is built on a mobile platform designed to give military forces a rapid response capability. It can accommodate either an 81mm or a 120mm mortar while significantly reducing recoil, a feature MMI Weapon Systems says improves operational effectiveness.

The modular, fully autonomous system is described by Kaduri Naor, CEO of MMI Weapon Systems, as operationally proven. It can be installed on different types of light combat vehicles, allowing forces to adapt the system to their mobility requirements and tactical needs.

Rapid deployment and integrated battlefield management

The system is designed for rapid deployment, wider coverage and improved situational awareness. It can be activated autonomously or manually and requires a crew of two to three people.

MMI Weapon Systems says Spear can be deployed and made operational in just 60 seconds. The short setup time is one of the main capabilities the company emphasizes in presenting the system.

Beyond its firing function, Spear incorporates a command-and-control system intended to support battlefield management. Its functions include monitoring the operational situation, prioritizing fire missions and tracking personnel assignments.

MMI Weapon Systems presents the combination of mobility, autonomy and rapid deployment as a new approach to “pocket artillery.” The stated aim is to provide maneuvering forces with versatile, cost-effective, ready-to-use systems suited to complex and contested environments.

MMI Weapon Systems highlights its wider defense portfolio

Spear’s presentation at the 2026 Marrakech Air Show also gives the company an opportunity to showcase a system combining weaponry, mobility and integrated controls, with the option of installation on several types of ground platforms.

MMI Weapon Systems says it draws on innovation, technical expertise and research to develop solutions that meet the changing needs of defense operators.

Its portfolio spans several equipment categories, including armored combat vehicles, military vehicle modernization programs, integrated platforms, high-precision mortar systems, advanced ammunition and various protection kits.

The company offers customizable solutions designed to improve equipment survivability, lethality, operational effectiveness and maneuverability. Its products are aimed in particular at defense equipment manufacturers.

MMI Weapon Systems supplies ground systems as turnkey solutions or standalone subsystems for other players in the defense industry. According to the company, its equipment can be integrated into existing platforms to meet the needs of different types of combat forces.

Its portfolio also includes the development and adaptation of control systems and electronic components for combat vehicles. With Spear, MMI Weapon Systems is showcasing another mortar solution intended for integration into its wider range of ground platforms and systems.
