Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid struck an upbeat but cautious note on Wednesday night as preliminary results put the PAM leader in a winning position in Rabat-Ocean, saying the numbers looked “encouraging and positive” but that he would wait for the final result before calling the race.
Bensaid, a member of PAM’s collective leadership and the party’s candidate in the constituency, made the remarks as he arrived at the party headquarters in Rabat for election night. The early numbers were going his way.
Speaking to Le360, Bensaid said the figures available to him placed him ahead in Rabat-Ocean, with preliminary results pointing to him taking one of the constituency’s seats.
Still, he would not claim it.
“Let’s wait for the official results,” he said, estimating that another hour would be needed before a clearer picture emerged.
Bensaid even joked about his reluctance to declare victory while the count was still under way, saying he did not want to bring himself “bad luck.”
For now, the preliminary tally has him among the winners in Rabat-Ocean. The final result has yet to be officially confirmed.
