The Atlas Lions held their first training session on Monday evening, September 21, at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmora, with Achraf Hakimi and Ismael Saibari the only two players missing from the squad.
A few hours after arriving in Maâmora, Mohamed Ouahbi’s players began their preparations with their first training session, as the coaching staff started implementing the program planned for the coming days.
The session focused mainly on getting the players back into condition and beginning the preparation program ahead of the team’s upcoming matches.
The squad was not yet complete, with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) confirming that Hakimi and Saibari were the only called-up players who did not take part in the session. The Atlas Lions captain and the midfielder are expected to join their teammates on Wednesday.
All the other players selected by Ouahbi were present and took part in the training session.
The Atlas Lions will continue their preparations in Maâmora over the coming days before beginning their campaign in the qualifiers for the Pamoja 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Morocco will host Gabon on Friday, September 25, from 7 p.m. at the Moulay Abdellah Complex in Rabat in the opening round of the qualifiers.
Ouahbi’s side will then travel to Bloemfontein, South Africa, to face Lesotho on September 29 before returning to action against Ghana in a friendly on October 4 in Tangier.
