The 2026-2027 Botola Pro officially got underway on Thursday, September 24, with Amal Tiznit taking on Ittihad Tanger in the opening match of the season.
Played at El Bachir Stadium in Mohammedia, the game ended in a 3-1 win for the Tangier side, who made the most of their chances against the newcomers to the top flight.
Ittihad Tanger needed just nine minutes to score the first goal of the new season. Saad Ait Khorsa opened the scoring and put the Tangier side on the front foot against a Tiznit team playing its first-ever match since securing promotion to the first division.
Amal Tiznit, however, had no intention of letting its historic debut pass without making its mark.
Just before halftime, Soufiane El Azhari produced one of the standout moments of the opening night. In the second minute of stoppage time, he unleashed a powerful long-range strike that left the opposing goalkeeper with no chance.
The spectacular effort brought Tiznit level at 1-1 and gave the club its first-ever Botola Pro goal.
The hope did not last long, however. Just two minutes after the restart, Ittihad Tanger regained the lead when Abdelhamid Maali put the visitors ahead again in the 47th minute. Eight minutes later, Ibrahima Dieng extended their advantage to 3-1.
Within a matter of minutes, Ittihad Tanger had done the hardest part. The Tangier side managed its lead effectively for the remainder of the match and held on until the final whistle to secure the first three points of the season.
For Amal Tiznit, the club’s first match in the top flight ended in defeat. Forced to play away from home because Tiznit does not have an approved stadium, the newly promoted side nevertheless showed what it can offer, particularly with the spectacular equalizer that will go down as its first goal in this new campaign.
Ittihad Tanger could hardly have asked for a better start. With three points and three goals, the Tangier club moves temporarily to the top of the standings and makes an ideal start to the 2026-2027 season.
The first matchday will continue on Saturday with three games on the schedule, Union Touarga vs FUS Rabat, Difaâ El Jadida vs COD Meknès and Wydad Casablanca vs Wydad Temara.
