CAF Champions League: MAS and RS Berkane learn preliminary-round opponents

Moroccan champions Maghreb de Fès (MAS) and runners-up RS Berkane now know their first opponents in the preliminary rounds of the CAF Champions League following Thursday’s draw at CAF headquarters in Egypt.

The draw for the first two preliminary rounds of the CAF Champions League was held on Thursday at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) headquarters in 6th of October City, Egypt.

Botola champions Maghreb de Fès (MAS) will begin their campaign in the first preliminary round, where they will face Burkina Faso’s Rahimo FC.

If they advance, MAS will take on the winner of the tie between Togo’s ASC Kara (Association Sportive des Chauffeurs de la Kozah) and Côte d’Ivoire’s ASEC Mimosas in the second preliminary round.

RS Berkane, who reached the semifinals of last season’s competition, received a bye into the second preliminary round. The Moroccan club will face the winner of the first-round tie between Sierra Leone’s Star Sports and Gambia’s Medina United FC.

The Orange Boys are among the teams exempt from the opening round, alongside defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns and Tunisia’s Espérance de Tunis.

First-leg matches in the opening preliminary round are scheduled to be played between September 4 and 6, with the return legs taking place from September 11 to 13.

The second preliminary round will be held between October 16 and 18 for the first legs, while the return fixtures are scheduled for October 23 to 25.
