Morocco’s National Human Rights Council has asked Spain’s ombudsman to investigate rights violations against Moroccan migrants in Ceuta. CNDH President Amina Bouayach said migrants, including minors, had suffered physical violence and been deprived of food and water, while other Moroccan rights advocates reported sexual abuse and racist treatment.

In a preliminary report on the events that unfolded in late July, Morocco’s National Human Rights Council (CNDH) recorded 14 deaths on the Moroccan side of the border, highlighted the role of disinformation in the attempted crossings, and called on Rabat and Madrid to work together to establish the exact death toll and return the victims’ remains to their families.
