More than 11,000 dogs and cats received free rabies vaccinations during a month-long campaign in Morocco’s urban areas, according to official figures from the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA).

The oriental hornet (Vespa orientalis) has been identified in several parts of northern Morocco, including Tangier, Tetouan, M’diq and Fnideq, prompting environmental groups and beekeepers to call for urgent field monitoring to determine how widely the species has spread.

Volunteer private veterinarians are offering the shots by appointment until September 30 to healthy dogs and cats aged at least three months under the Action Stop Rage campaign.
