Although work is still underway on a few sections of the boulevard, the transformation of this major thoroughfare is already clearly visible. Extending from the Marjane roundabout to the bridge over the Nfifikh River, along the road linking Rabat and Mohammedia, the first phase of the project is entering its final stage after weeks of intensive construction.
The overhaul forms part of the municipality’s broader strategy to upgrade road infrastructure and continue the urban renewal projects launched in recent years. With a budget of 27 million dirhams, the project goes beyond resurfacing the roadway. It includes widening and reinforcing the road network, redeveloping the shoulders, modernizing public lighting and creating green spaces intended to improve residents’ quality of life.
As Mohammedia experiences a surge in visitors during the summer months, local authorities have adjusted the construction schedule to minimize disruptions to traffic.
“Given the heavy traffic the city experiences during the summer, we decided to temporarily suspend redevelopment work on other streets. The projects will resume after the summer season in order to reduce inconvenience for motorists and residents,” said Hassan Bakkoury, vice president of the Mohammedia municipal council.

Once the first phase is completed, the municipality plans to move ahead with additional rehabilitation projects.
“We will then begin redevelopment work on Mohammed V Avenue and Moulay Hassan Park, with the same objectives of modernizing infrastructure and improving lighting, pedestrian crossings and green spaces,” he added.
Originally scheduled to take two months, the project is now close to completion. According to municipal officials, only the final touches remain before the work is officially handed over.
“The implementation period was set at two months. Today, the project is nearing completion. About three weeks of work remain, mainly involving the second layer of asphalt and horizontal and vertical road markings,” Bakkoury said.
Through this project, the municipality hopes to continue reshaping Mohammedia’s urban landscape. Following the redevelopment of several major roads, including Hassan II Avenue and Resistance Avenue, as well as projects along the seafront, the overhaul of Mohammed VI Boulevard marks another step in the modernization of the city’s infrastructure and the strengthening of its tourism appeal.
