Motorists do not have to replace all existing vehicle license plates before December 31, 2026, NARSA said on Friday, moving to clear up confusion over the new rules.
The road safety agency said information circulating about a blanket end-2026 deadline was incorrect.

Instead, when a plate must be replaced depends on the vehicle and the type of plate it currently carries under Decision No. 640.26, published on August 3.
For vehicles registered in the normal series and using domestic plates without Latin characters, there is no December 2026 deadline.
Those plates remain valid until the vehicle undergoes its first transfer of ownership.
The rule is different for vehicles in the normal registration series whose plates are used for international travel. Plates displaying Latin characters, with Morocco’s “MA” country identifier shown separately, remain valid until December 31, 2026.
NARSA issued the clarification after what it described as inaccurate information about the new registration plate rules circulated among motorists.
