Rain and thunderstorms are expected across large parts of Morocco on Monday, with unsettled weather stretching from the Rif through the central plains and Atlas ranges, while temperatures in the south could touch 40C.
Dense clouds will bring rain and locally thundery showers to the Oulmès plateaus, Saïss and the Middle Atlas, according to the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM).
The Rif, western Mediterranean and High Atlas are also in for scattered rain.
Lighter showers could reach considerably further afield, with the northern and central plains, Souss, Anti-Atlas, southeast, Oriental and the northwestern parts of the Southern Provinces all likely to see some rain during the day.
The south will remain on the warmer side.
Maximum temperatures of 36C to 40C are forecast for the eastern and southern reaches of the Southern Provinces, while the southeast, central plains and southern coast will see highs of between 28C and 32C.
Most other parts of the country will remain between 20C and 27C.
Moderate to fairly strong winds are expected over the Atlas and the south, where dust may be kicked up locally.
Tuesday will bring a break from much of Monday’s rain, but not an entirely clear sky.
Low cloud along the coast could bring fog or drizzle during the morning and night, while passing clouds over the Atlas and its eastern slopes may still produce local showers.
Temperatures will begin to edge upwards, with relatively warm weather holding over the inland plains and Southern Provinces. Winds could again become fairly strong over the Middle Atlas and the south.
Much the same coastal pattern is forecast for Wednesday, with low cloud, patches of fog or drizzle possible early and late in the day.
The Atlas, Oriental and Rif will see mostly clear to partly cloudy skies.
Temperatures are expected to dip slightly along the coast but rise elsewhere, keeping the inland plains and Southern Provinces warm. Moderate to fairly strong winds in the south could again raise dust in places.
From Thursday, the warmer weather settles in for longer.
The southeast and Southern Provinces are expected to remain relatively hot through the beginning of next week, while unstable cloud over the High and Middle Atlas and surrounding areas could still produce showers or thunderstorms.
Northern and central parts of the country may see partly cloudy spells from Saturday.
Temperatures are forecast to inch higher through Monday, October 5, before turning down again.
