A Royal Gendarmerie Turbo Thrush aircraft crashed Thursday in Témara while responding to a forest fire, killing the pilot, according to preliminary information.

The Ayres T660 Turbo Thrush, registered CN-AZV, went down near the boundary between the Massira II neighborhood and the Maâmora Forest, according to concordant sources.

Authorities responded to the crash site and opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.

The aircraft had been deployed as part of efforts to combat a forest fire that broke out in Témara earlier Thursday.

The aircraft is part of the Royal Gendarmerie’s fleet dedicated to aerial firefighting operations and aerial spraying missions.
