Former Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal has joined Getafe as a free agent, with the 34-year-old looking to get his career back on track, the Madrid-based club announced Tuesday, October 13.
The experienced right back, who has earned 51 caps for Spain, has signed a contract running until June 30, 2027.
After a season disrupted by injuries, Carvajal was left out of Spain’s squad for the 2026 World Cup. He had been without a club since his contract with Real Madrid expired at the beginning of the summer, ending a 13-year spell with the club.
“During his career, Dani Carvajal has won no fewer than 29 trophies with Real Madrid and the Spanish national team, including six Champions League titles and the European Championship in 2024,” Getafe said in a statement.
“The right back begins a new chapter with our team, where he will bring his experience and leadership,” the club added.
According to local media reports, Carvajal will earn less than €1 million, compared with the approximately €10 million he earned per season at Real Madrid.
His transfer was not completed in time for him to be registered for the Conference League group stage. He will only be able to play in the competition if Getafe qualify for the next round.
Getafe currently sit 14th in La Liga after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Barcelona on Saturday.
