FIFA president Gianni Infantino on Monday, September 21 proposed launching a consultation with the organization’s 211 member associations as part of efforts to reform its governance and strengthen transparency, participation and accountability in decision-making.
In a letter sent to the 211 member associations, a copy of which was obtained by AFP, Infantino proposed that FIFA begin a consultation on possible changes to the organization’s governance.
“I will propose that the Council organize a direct, structured and time-limited consultation with the confederations, member associations and relevant stakeholders on how to further strengthen FIFA’s decision-making processes,” Infantino wrote.
“This consultation would invite specific proposals on the earlier involvement of institutional bodies, the respective roles of the President, the Bureau, the Council and the Congress, as well as concrete ways to strengthen transparency, participation and accountability in major strategic initiatives,” the Swiss-Italian official added.

Infantino proposed that the first proposals be considered at the FIFA Council meeting scheduled for October 15. He added that “written contributions received subsequently, but within a reasonable timeframe, will naturally also be considered.”
“Any resulting amendments to the statutes would then be submitted to the Congress for consideration and approval in accordance with the appropriate procedure,” he said.
