Isack Hadjar will return to Formula 1 action at this weekend’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix after missing the last three races with a wrist injury.
The French driver injured his wrist while training during Formula 1’s August break, forcing him to sit out the Dutch, Italian and Spanish Grands Prix.
Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson stepped in for Hadjar during the three races, while Red Bull reserve driver Yuki Tsunoda replaced Lawson at the junior team.
Red Bull confirmed Hadjar’s return in a statement, saying the 21-year-old had made a successful recovery and would return to action at Baku City Circuit on Thursday.
“Oracle Red Bull Racing is delighted to welcome Isack back this weekend,” the team said. “Having made a successful recovery from his wrist injury, Isack will return to action at the Baku City Circuit on Thursday.”
Hadjar’s return will see Lawson move back to Racing Bulls, where he will resume his season alongside the team’s regular lineup. Tsunoda will remain on the sidelines as a potential stand-in for the remainder of the season.
Red Bull also thanked Lawson for stepping in during Hadjar’s absence, praising his professionalism and performances over the past three races.
“Stepping in under challenging circumstances, he delivered some impressive performances and made a valuable contribution to the team,” Red Bull said.
Lawson scored 14 points during his three-race spell alongside Max Verstappen at Red Bull, taking his season tally to 59 points.
Hadjar returns to the team after also seeing his only podium of the season reinstated. The FIA’s International Court of Appeal overturned Alpine’s right of review over the Monaco Grand Prix result earlier this season, confirming Hadjar’s podium finish.
