Morocco coach Hicham Dguig said the national futsal team could have won by a wider margin against Algeria after opening its Africa Futsal Cup of Nations campaign with a 4-0 victory in Rabat on Monday.

Speaking after the match, Dguig described the encounter as a special derby and a first opportunity for the players to face Moroccan fans inside the arena.

He said he was particularly pleased to give every player in the squad playing time and help them settle into the continental competition.

Morocco’s immediate objective is to reach the semifinals, Dguig said, with the team set to reassess its approach for each match from that stage onward.

He added that Algeria had adopted a defensive approach to limit the damage, making it harder for Morocco to create clear openings.

“The score could have been wider. We know how difficult it is to break down a tight defense, but the priority is to regain the energy and dynamism that define our style of play,” he said.

Dguig said the team would now work on technical details, particularly its finishing from close range.
