World No. 2 Alexander Zverev secured the points that handed Team Europe victory over Team World after beating American Leander Tien 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 in the opening singles match of the third and final day of the Laver Cup in London on Sunday.

Europe, leading 13-5, were assured of the title before Sunday’s final two singles matches. Each match on the final day was worth three points, meaning Team World could collect no more than six points from the remaining contests.

Italian Flavio Cobolli and Czech Jakub Mensik had put Europe in a commanding position earlier in the day. Their 7-5, 6-3 victory over Australian Alex de Minaur and American Taylor Fritz gave Europe a 10-5 lead.

Zverev then needed only to finish the job. Tien pushed the German hard in the opening set and earned a set point before Zverev prevailed in the tiebreak, where the world No. 2 showed his composure. The German then took control against the 20-year-old American in the second set.

In the annual competition created by Swiss tennis great Roger Federer in 2017, Europe now lead the overall series 6-3 and have reclaimed the trophy after Team World won it in 2025.
