Women’s AFCON: Atlas Lionesses to face Cameroon in semifinals

Morocco’s women’s national team will face Cameroon in the semifinals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. Cameroon secured a place in the last four after beating Nigeria 1-0 on Sunday, August 9.

The Atlas Lionesses will take on the Indomitable Lionesses in the semifinals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Jorge Vilda’s side booked their place with a 2-1 win over South Africa in Saturday’s quarterfinal, while Cameroon defeated Nigeria 1-0 on Sunday. The semifinal will be played on Wednesday, August 13, at 9 p.m. at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat, with a place in the final at stake.

The Morocco-Cameroon semifinal will be the fourth meeting between the two teams. Their first encounter came in the group stage of the 2000 Women’s AFCON in South Africa, where Cameroon won 4-1.

The two sides met again in 2021 at the Aisha Buhari Cup in Nigeria. This time, the Atlas Lionesses prevailed 1-0, with Fatima Tagnaout scoring the decisive goal.

Their most recent meeting came in 2025, in a friendly played in Casablanca, where Cameroon won 1-0.

In their first knockout stage meeting at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, the Atlas Lionesses will look to secure a place in the final of the 2026 tournament.
