A major fire tore through a Chinese automotive equipment plant under construction at Tanger Tech on Wednesday morning, gutting large parts of the facility before firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control.
The fire broke out at around 8am at the industrial unit in Ain Dalia, on the outskirts of Tangier. Flames spread through sizeable sections of the plant, causing heavy material damage.
Several Civil Protection crews and water tankers were rushed to the site as the fire took hold.
With smoke and flames spreading through the facility, workers at some neighboring industrial units were evacuated as a precaution.

Royal Gendarmerie personnel cordoned off the affected plant and surrounding area while local authorities joined the operation.
No casualties were reported in the initial information available.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known. An investigation has been opened to establish how the blaze started.
Wednesday’s fire comes less than two weeks after another major blaze ripped through an industrial site near Chrafate in Fahs-Anjra province.
All of the roughly 370 permanent and temporary workers at that facility were evacuated without injury.
That fire had dealt a heavy blow to production, although the company said it managed to shift 83pc of the volumes produced in Tangier for carmakers and the replacement-parts market to other plants in the group within a week.
The latest blaze was brought under control after causing extensive damage to the Tanger Tech unit, which was still under construction when the fire broke out.
