A major fire broke out early Friday afternoon, September 11, in the TAC 1 industrial zone in the municipality of Jouamaa, in the province of Fahs-Anjra, on the outskirts of Tangier. According to local authorities, the fire started inside a facility specializing in the manufacture of automotive filters before spreading to two neighboring factories due to strong winds blowing across the region.

Given the scale of the fire, an emergency response was quickly deployed. Local authorities, security forces and Civil Protection personnel mobilized tanker trucks and other logistical resources to contain the flames. All workers and employees at the affected factories and neighboring facilities were urgently evacuated to ensure their safety.

By late afternoon, Civil Protection teams had fully brought the fire under control, with no casualties reported. At 6:30 p.m., local authorities said the situation had stabilized, with the flames under control and their spread to neighboring industrial facilities prevented. Operations continued into the evening to fully contain the fire inside the hardest-hit factory and maintain surveillance to prevent any risk of it reigniting.

The material damage remains significant, with three production facilities employing a large workforce affected by the fire. At the two neighboring factories, however, the damage was limited to the exterior facades, with no significant interior damage or damage to equipment and installations.

The Royal Gendarmerie’s services have opened a judicial investigation, under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office in Tangier, to determine the exact technical circumstances surrounding the outbreak of the fire and precisely assess the losses incurred.
