Forest fires pose an extreme risk in six provinces over the next five days, while large parts of the north, center and south have been placed at high risk, according to a warning issued by the National Agency for Water and Forests on Friday.
Fahs-Anjra, Tangier-Assilah, Taounate, Taza, Essaouira and Taroudant are at the highest risk level from September 11 to 15.
The warning comes as firefighters battle a blaze in Fahs-Anjra, where strong winds on Friday carried flames from an automotive filter factory to two neighboring factories in the TAC 1 industrial zone.
ANEF’s high-risk category covers Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, Larache, Ouezzane, Tetouan and M’Diq-Fnideq in the north, as well as El Hajeb, Sefrou and Moulay Yacoub.
Kenitra, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Khemisset, Rabat, Salé and Skhirate-Témara are also on the list.
Further south, the high-risk warning applies to Azilal, Beni Mellal, Benslimane, Settat, Mohammedia, Nouaceur, Al Haouz and Agadir Ida-Outanane.
Driouch, Nador, Taourirt, Guercif, Meknes, Ifrane, Khenifra and Midelt face a medium risk.
ANEF said its bulletin was drawn up using prediction models that take into account forest vegetation and its combustibility, along with weather and terrain conditions.
Residents near forests, visitors and people working in forest areas have been urged to exercise particular caution and take precautions against starting fires.
