The National Agency for Water and Forests has launched a conservation program combining scientific monitoring, captive breeding and genetic preservation to help protect one of Morocco’s threatened bird subspecies.

Fahs-Anjra, Tangier-Assilah, Taounate, Taza, Essaouira and Taroudant placed at highest alert level, with another 24 provinces facing high risk.

Morocco’s National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF) has published its Forest Fire Risk Bulletin (BRIF) for the period from Aug. 1 to 3, 2026. Based on forecasting models and data on vegetation, topography, and climate conditions, the bulletin classifies several provinces across the Kingdom as facing medium, high, or extreme wildfire risk.

Morocco recorded 310 forest fires between Jan. 1 and July 20, 2026, burning a total of 1,850 hectares, according to the National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF). Souss-Massa accounted for the largest burned area nationwide, while Rabat-Salé-Kénitra and Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima recorded the highest number of fires.

Morocco will keep existing quotas and license fees unchanged while expanding wildlife restoration, anti-poaching measures and the regulated hunting-tourism sector.
