A forest fire broke out on Saturday, October 24, in the Kbach area of Khams Beni Hassan, in Tetouan province, near the administrative boundary with Chefchaouen province. With the fire posing a risk of spreading, authorities mobilized ground teams and aerial resources to contain the flames and protect nearby areas.

A monitoring unit was set up under the supervision of the governor of Chefchaouen province to track the fire and coordinate the response. The governor went to the scene to oversee firefighting operations and ensure the safety of nearby areas, particularly the douars around Dar Akoubâa and the Chefchaouen dam.

Nearly 170 personnel from various services deployed across the two provinces are taking part in the firefighting effort. The operation involves local authorities, Civil Protection, the National Agency for Water and Forests, the Royal Gendarmerie and the Auxiliary Forces. Local residents are also helping the teams on the ground.

Specialized vehicles and equipment have been brought to the site to reinforce the response. Canadair aircraft operated by the Royal Armed Forces are making several sorties to drop water on active fire fronts and help contain the spread of the blaze.

The operation remains challenging due to the area’s rugged terrain, which is making it more difficult for ground crews to reach the affected areas. So far, no casualties or major property damage have been reported. The exact area of forest affected has yet to be determined, and the cause of the fire remains unknown.

Firefighting efforts are continuing until the blaze is fully contained, with particular attention being paid to inhabited areas near the fire perimeter.
