The Casablanca City Council approved the proposed budget for the 2027 fiscal year during the second meeting of its October ordinary session on Thursday, October 22.

Chaired by Casablanca City Council President Nabila Rmili, the meeting focused on discussing and voting on 65 agenda items covering financial and land-related matters, the management of sports facilities and municipal parking lots, and other issues related to local governance.

On this occasion, Rmili said the municipality’s 2027 budget had been drawn up based on rigorous planning and spending rationalization, while taking into account its various financial commitments and ongoing development projects. She stressed that the budget was particularly important because it would mark the final year of the current council’s term in 2027.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Rmili also noted that Casablanca’s municipal budget had increased significantly during the current term, rising from around MAD 3.5 billion in 2021 to nearly MAD 5.3 billion in 2027. This increase had helped fund numerous development projects and improve services provided to residents, particularly cleanliness services.

She added that the municipality’s operating expenses, which mainly cover civil servants’ salaries, debt servicing and budgets allocated to district councils and local development companies, amount to nearly MAD 4.7 billion.

She noted that the council had taken care to meet its financial obligations when preparing the budget, in order to prevent unpaid bills for water, electricity and public lighting from accumulating.

Rmili said spending rationalization had made it possible to allocate around MAD 800 million to investment. She also said the municipality expected to record a substantial budget surplus by the end of the current year, which would help it meet its commitments under agreements and planned projects and ensure their continued implementation.

Casablanca City Council held the first meeting of its October ordinary session on October 7. At that meeting, members voted by majority to approve the creation of an additional civil registry office, “Al Abrar,” to be located at the Al Abrar administrative annex in the Moulay Rachid district.

Council members were also briefed on the details of legal proceedings recorded during the preceding period and the related information.
