The blaze started at around 6:35 p.m. inside the facility, which is used to store waste containers, machinery and carts employed in the district’s cleaning operations. The site was reportedly unattended at the time.

Local authorities and Civil Protection teams rushed to the scene after being alerted. Firefighters faced difficulties due to the large number of metal containers piled up at the depot and tightly closed, but they managed to contain and fully extinguish the fire before it spread to nearby industrial facilities and warehouses.

An initial assessment found that the damage was limited to property. The flames destroyed around 50 new waste containers and 150 used ones, along with several handcarts used by sanitation workers.

After extinguishing and cooling operations were completed, security services opened a judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the fire.
