On September 20, the school day will still begin at 8am, but the clocks will have gone back an hour.
The Education Ministry has instructed public schools to adjust their timetables from that date, when the country returns to Greenwich Mean Time under the new official-time rules.
The change takes place at 2am on September 20, when clocks will be moved back by 60 minutes.
That means the 8am school bell stays where it is on the clock, while pupils and their families effectively gain an hour compared with the schedule they have been following.
Start of the school year at various educational institutions in Morocco
The ministry has asked regional education academies, provincial directorates and schools to prepare their timetables accordingly for the 2026-27 academic year.
The ministry said timetables should take local conditions into account, particularly in rural areas, while ensuring that pupils still receive the required number of teaching hours for each subject and grade.

School administrations have also been told to organize their staff and facilities around the new schedule and ensure classes are ready to begin at 8am from September 20.
The timing change comes only weeks into the new school year and will alter a routine families have grown accustomed to under the previous clock.
