Fuel distributors in Morocco cut pump prices again on Wednesday, lowering diesel by 97 centimes per liter and petrol by 46 centimes, marking the second price reduction in two weeks.

The latest adjustment follows a previous cut on June 16, when petrol prices fell by 60 centimes per liter and diesel by 40 centimes.

Following the new reduction, diesel, which had been selling for about 13.57 dirhams per litre after the previous adjustment, is expected to cost around 12.60 dirhams per litre. Petrol, which had stood at roughly 14.30 dirhams per litre since mid-June, is expected to fall to about 13.85 dirhams per litre.

These prices remain indicative, however, as they may vary depending on the distributor and the region.

The latest price cut has also revived the broader debate over Morocco’s fuel pricing system, an issue repeatedly raised by the Competition Council.

The regulator continues to call for an overhaul of the current mechanism, under which distributors revise fuel prices collectively every two weeks, with changes applied in a largely uniform manner across the market.

The Competition Council has urged each distributor to adopt its own independent pricing policy, arguing that this would lead to more responsive price adjustments and fairer outcomes for consumers.
