Located on the Ouzioua River, about 100 kilometers east of Taroudant, the dam is a key water infrastructure facility in the Souss basin. It helps mobilize water resources for drinking water supplies and agricultural irrigation.
According to the Al Ma Dyalna platform, the upgrade will significantly increase the dam’s ability to store and mobilize water to meet the needs of the surrounding region.

The project has a budget of approximately 1.3 billion dirhams and is expected to be completed in early 2027. Accelerated construction has already shortened the project timeline by more than six months.
The expanded reservoir is expected to improve drinking water supplies for Taroudant and nearby areas, while supporting irrigation on farmland downstream of the dam. It is also intended to help replenish the Souss groundwater table and reduce flood risks by increasing the facility’s capacity to store water and regulate its flow.
The project is part of Morocco’s continued investment in water infrastructure to strengthen storage capacity, improve water security and support agricultural and economic development in the Souss-Massa region.
