According to data released by the Ministry of Equipment and Water, the total budget allocated to the strategic water infrastructure project stands at nearly MAD 1.717 billion. The dam will have a storage capacity of approximately 151 million cubic metres.

Located near the commune of Ait Majden in Azilal province, the dam is among the major water infrastructure projects planned under the 2020-2027 National Program for the Supply of Drinking Water and Irrigation Water.

The project is expected to serve several development objectives, including securing the supply of drinking water to the Marrakech region, providing the water resources needed to support agricultural irrigation, and protecting residents and infrastructure in the Beni Mellal-Khenifra region from the risks of seasonal flooding.

On the energy front, the multipurpose facility is also expected to increase the generation capacity of the Hassan I Hydroelectric Power Station, strengthening energy efficiency and enhancing the region’s overall water security.
