Work is under way to expand the Oum Azza drinking water treatment plant in Skhirat-Témara, adding 40pc to its capacity as demand puts more pressure on water supplies.
The plant currently treats 5 cubic metres of water per second. The expansion will add another 2 cubic metres per second, bringing the total to 7, according to Maa Dialna, the Equipment and Water Ministry’s water platform.

The extra capacity is intended to put more treated water into the supply network serving areas connected to Oum Azza and give the system greater room to cope with water stress.
The project involves expanding drinking water production facilities at the plant, with work currently continuing on site.
Once completed, Oum Azza will be able to treat an additional 172,800 cubic metres of water over 24 hours.
