Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is set to take delivery of another Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner by the end of July, continuing the rapid fleet expansion underpinning the Moroccan flag carrier’s long-term growth strategy.
The aircraft, registered CN-RHV, will increase RAM’s fleet of Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners to 13, while bringing its overall fleet to 68 aircraft, according to information obtained by Le360 from a source familiar with the matter.
The delivery follows the arrival of another Boeing 787-8 on April 10, reflecting the airline’s accelerated aircraft acquisition program as it expands both its fleet and international network.
Royal Air Maroc expects to end 2026 with 74 aircraft before growing its fleet further to 88 aircraft by 2027, laying the groundwork for a much larger expansion over the next decade.
The fleet growth has gone hand in hand with a broader route network. Over the past months, the airline has launched around 20 new nonstop routes, connecting Morocco with major economic and tourism hubs including Beijing, São Paulo, Los Angeles, St. Petersburg, Manchester and N’Djamena.
“The Royal Air Maroc development plan provides for the integration of an average of 10 to 15 aircraft each year. Every aircraft undergoes a rigorous technical process to ensure compliance with both international requirements and the airline’s own operational standards,” Oussama El Farisi, RAM’s Head of Engineering, previously told Le360.
The expansion forms part of the performance agreement signed between Royal Air Maroc and the Moroccan government in July 2023, under which the airline aims to quadruple its fleet to 200 aircraft by 2037. To support that objective, the carrier has launched a tender covering 188 aircraft.
According to Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the negotiations, Royal Air Maroc is considering the purchase of around 20 additional Boeing 787 Dreamliners for its long-haul operations, up to 50 Boeing 737s for short-haul routes, and about 20 Airbus A220s to strengthen its regional network.
Beyond Boeing and Airbus, the airline has also included ATR and Embraer among the manufacturers participating in its fleet renewal program, with the first deliveries from those potential orders expected from 2028 onward.
