Political parties have until November 15 to submit proposals for possible changes to the rules governing the 2027 elections, following talks with the Interior Ministry in Rabat on Wednesday.
The deadline was agreed at a meeting between the interior minister and leaders of parties represented by a parliamentary group or grouping, according to a ministry statement.
The proposals will be used to prepare a preliminary framework for amendments to electoral legislation, which would then be submitted for parliamentary consideration.
The 2027 elections will cover communal and district councils, prefectural and provincial councils, regional councils, professional chambers, employee representatives and the House of Councillors.
During Wednesday’s meeting, party leaders were briefed on preparations for the national and professional electoral rolls, as well as the possible retention of legal safeguards introduced ahead of the last legislative elections to curb electoral malpractice.
The ministry said discussions also covered measures to ensure fair competition among parties and strengthen public confidence in elections and representative institutions.
Party representatives expressed their willingness to contribute to preparations for the polls, the statement added.
The ministry said the proposed amendments would be drawn up after receiving the parties’ submissions, with a view to sending the necessary legislation through Parliament as soon as possible.
