In his address marking the opening of Parliament, King Mohammed VI described Morocco as “one of the world’s oldest nations,” united under “a venerable monarchy—one of the most ancient in history.”
The King said Moroccans had every reason to take pride in their country, highlighting their “authentic religious identity, under the aegis of the Commandership of the Faithful,” and their “distinctive cultural identity, which is enriched by its diverse components.”
The King also pointed to Morocco’s political and diplomatic achievements. “I take pride in the political and diplomatic accomplishments we have made, as well as in our developmental, economic, and social achievements, which have transformed Morocco.”
For the King, “Pride in one’s homeland, in this case, is not about boasting or self-satisfaction; rather, it is the driving force that turns the sense of belonging into responsibility, and confidence into a national duty.”
