The Rabat Bar Association has activated a financial support fund to help lawyers affected by the ongoing nationwide strike, becoming one of the first bar associations in Morocco to provide direct monthly assistance as the profession’s indefinite walkout enters its seventh week.
Beginning in July, eligible lawyers will receive MAD11,000 per month through a solidarity fund created last December to assist members facing financial hardship, Rabat Bar president Aziz Rouibah said.

Financed through contributions equal to 10% of members’ legal fees, the solidarity fund was originally established to assist lawyers facing health or professional difficulties.
The legal profession has been on an indefinite nationwide strike since June in protest against judicial reforms and other issues affecting lawyers’ working conditions. The movement has disrupted proceedings in courts across the country, delaying hearings and adding to mounting case backlogs.
As the standoff continues, the Rabat Bar’s decision reflects growing concern over the economic consequences of the strike for lawyers, particularly those whose livelihoods depend on court activity.
By mobilizing the fund, the Rabat Bar Association is seeking to preserve solidarity within the profession while enabling lawyers to sustain their protest.
