Suspended high above the city, the Agadir cable car offers passengers sweeping views of the bay, the port and the surrounding hills of the Souss capital.
Since the beginning of the 2026 summer season, the attraction, which links downtown Agadir with the Agadir Oufella Kasbah—a historic site that survived the 1960 earthquake—has attracted growing numbers of visitors from across Morocco, as well as MREs and foreign tourists.
Some visitors, who travelled from Oujda, said they were impressed by the experience of seeing Agadir from above.
“The cable car ride was truly beautiful. Despite a little fog, we were still able to enjoy the view from the top. Everything looks different from up there. It’s an exceptional landscape,” said Najat, a visitor from Oujda.
Abdellah, who travelled from Nador, described the visit as memorable. “It’s my first time in Agadir. I’ve visited Tangier before and really enjoyed it, but the view from the mountain here is incomparable. I had only seen this place in pictures before. Today, I was able to discover its beauty for myself.”
Regular visitors also highlighted the scenery, particularly around sunset. “I come here often and always enjoy the views, especially at this time of day. Both the ascent and the descent offer spectacular scenery,” said Hassane, another visitor.
For tourists, the cable car has become an added attraction for the city. “It’s an important addition to Agadir Oufella. It strengthens the city’s appeal and reinforces its position as a major tourist destination in the Souss-Massa region,” Hassane added.
According to Abdelaziz Houays, general manager of the company behind the Agadir cable car, visitor numbers this summer have surpassed those recorded during the previous season.
“We noticed a significant increase in attendance much earlier than last year. We are also seeing more international visitors, with an estimated increase of between 15 and 20%,” he said.
Houays explained that the summer season started slightly earlier this year, with particularly strong demand from both Moroccan and international visitors.
“Visitors are fully enjoying the experience and the atmosphere at the Agadir Oufella Kasbah. You can see the smiles and satisfaction on their faces, which is very encouraging for the success of the season,” he added.
Following extensive rehabilitation work, the cable car route now offers panoramic views of the city, its coastline, commercial port and the national road linking Agadir to the rest of the Kingdom. The attraction has become another asset for the city, reinforcing Agadir’s position as one of Morocco’s leading tourist destinations.
