More than 80 percent of primary schools in Casablanca’s Hay Hassani district are now part of the Pioneer Schools program after another 19 joined it this year.
The additions take the number of Pioneer primary schools in the district to 39, Hay Hassani provincial education director Khadija Kabali said as the new school year began on Monday.
Five middle schools have also joined the program, taking the total from eight to 13 out of the district’s 26 middle schools.
The expansion comes alongside five new schools—two primary schools, one middle school and two secondary schools—added to increase capacity in the district.
Kabali said this had left schools in a “very comfortable position” when it came to overcrowding at primary, middle and secondary levels.
She said more schools would be needed as the population of Hay Hassani grows.

At Salah Al Din Al Ayoubi Primary School, where the 2026-27 school year officially began in the district on Monday, pupils in the Pioneer program will first take assessments to determine their learning levels.
They will then receive four weeks of intensive support according to those levels.
The school itself has been refurbished and provided with educational and digital equipment under the program, while its teachers have received Pioneer Schools training, according to headteacher Aouatif Al Ati.
The program focuses on Arabic, French and mathematics, with additional support for pupils experiencing learning difficulties.
