Morocco recorded 97,147 naturalizations in the European Union and Norway in 2024, according to the “Asylum and Migration Overview 2025″ report published Monday by the European Migration Network.
According to the report, Moroccans accounted for 9.2% of all citizenships granted to non-EU nationals. Morocco ranked second behind Syria, which recorded 113,831 naturalizations, or 10.7% of the total. Albania ranked third with 48,118 new citizens, representing 4.5%.
The total number of third-country nationals who acquired citizenship in the EU and Norway exceeded one million in 2024, up from more than 950,000 in 2023. Syria, Morocco, and Albania ranked as the top three countries of origin for the second consecutive year.
In 2023, Syria ranked first with 116,626 naturalizations, accounting for 12.2% of the total. Morocco ranked second with 106,568 naturalizations, or 11.1%, while Albania followed with 44,469 naturalizations, representing 4.6%.
The ranking differed from that of 2022. That year, Morocco topped the list with 112,769 naturalizations, accounting for 12.7% of the total, followed by Syria with 94,541 (10.6%) and Albania with 50,362 (5.7%).
