A new engineering school will open its doors in Laayoune for the 2026-2027 academic year, while the city’s medical faculty will begin training military doctors as the program expands beyond Rabat.
The National School of Advanced Technologies will take its first students this year for a five-year course comprising two preparatory years and three years of engineering studies.
Applications for the preparatory cycle are open to holders of scientific and technical baccalaureates.
The school joins the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy and the Higher School of Technology, giving Laayoune three public higher education institutions under Ibn Zohr University.
The university has presented the new school as part of a new generation of engineering institutions being developed to train graduates for projects in the southern regions.

The other major change this academic year will come at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy.
Laayoune and Agadir will join the military medicine training network, taking the program outside Rabat.
Twenty military medicine places have been allocated between the two faculties.
The dean of Laayoune’s Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy said the move marked a new step for the institution and the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region.
The faculty, which has moved into its new premises, already provides medical and pharmacy training alongside the city’s hospital facilities.
Laayoune’s Higher School of Technology, meanwhile, offers courses in computer engineering, management, marketing and communication, human resources, and legal and financial techniques.
Its programs include university diplomas of technology and professional bachelor’s degrees.
The three institutions form part of Ibn Zohr University’s expanding network in the southern regions, which also includes higher education institutions in Smara, Guelmim and Dakhla.
