The Consulate General of Morocco in Bologna continues to assist the family of Abderrahim Fakir, who died on July 19 in the northern Italian city during a police operation. Acting on the instructions of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Consul General Khadija Ndour met with Fakir’s relatives to convey the consulate’s condolences and sympathy.
According to a statement issued by the consulate, Ndour assured the family that Morocco’s diplomatic and consular services would remain fully mobilized on the case and would continue to provide the administrative and consular support needed throughout this difficult period.
The Consulate General said it is maintaining direct contact with the relevant Italian authorities in close coordination with the Kingdom’s Embassy in Rome. It added that it is closely following every stage of the ongoing judicial proceedings, in accordance with Italian legal procedures, to ensure continuous oversight of the case until the investigation is concluded.

The statement also confirmed that Fakir’s family continues to receive assistance with all administrative and consular procedures related to the repatriation of his body to Morocco. The transfer will take place once the legal process has been completed and the necessary authorizations have been issued by the Italian judicial authorities.
The Moroccan Embassy in Rome and the Consulate General in Bologna reaffirmed their commitment to following the case with the utmost diligence and responsibility and to providing the family with every form of support until all legal procedures have been completed.

Abderrahim Fakir, a 42-year-old Moroccan who moved to Italy at the age of five, died on July 19 after being pinned to the ground by two police officers during his arrest in Bologna. A video recorded by a local resident and widely circulated by Italian media shows Fakir being held face down for several minutes, pleading for help before appearing motionless with his face against the asphalt, while two paramedics stood nearby without intervening.
The Italian public prosecutor’s office opened an investigation the day after the incident, prompting public outrage and drawing several hundred demonstrators to a rally in Bologna.
