The project has made significant progress, according to El Maliki, who described the investment involved as substantial. It is governed by an agreement bringing together several partners: the Natural Disaster Mitigation Fund under the Interior Ministry, the Ministry of Equipment and Water, the Casablanca-Settat region, the Bouregreg and Chaouia Hydraulic Basin Agency, and Bouskoura commune.
The agreement divides the project into three phases. Around 70% of the first phase has been completed, while the second has been carried out, El Maliki told Le360. The partners have now approved the third phase, which will be the final one.
The project includes infrastructure designed to channel rainwater and prevent the flooding previously caused by Oued Bouskoura. Earlier overflows also affected neighboring areas, including parts of Casablanca.
El Maliki said flooding was no longer a problem. However, he warned that pollution continues to threaten residents living near the waterway.
The pollution comes in particular from industrial zones in Nouaceur province, especially those in Bouskoura and Ouled Saleh.
