Early Wednesday morning, August 12, officers from the Safi Provincial Judicial Police Service thwarted an international drug trafficking operation and seized 4.89 tons of cannabis resin. This operation was made possible by precise information provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST).
The security operation took place in the Abir rural area near Safi. Officers found a utility vehicle loaded with cannabis resin that had reportedly been abandoned by its driver in an open area.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 111 bales of cannabis resin.
The Safi provincial judicial police have opened a judicial investigation under the supervision of the relevant public prosecutor’s office. The investigation aims to identify and arrest the driver of the vehicle used to transport the seized drugs, as well as apprehend all individuals allegedly involved in the criminal network linked to the operation.
