The 2027 Spanish Super Cup will take place in Istanbul from Feb. 2 to 7, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced Thursday, marking the competition’s first edition in Turkey.
FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid and Real Sociedad will contest the four-team tournament at Istanbul’s Atatürk Olympic Stadium.
The move represents a temporary departure from Saudi Arabia, which has hosted the competition continuously since 2022.
According to the RFEF, the switch was necessary because Saudi Arabia will be hosting the AFC Asian Cup during the same period. The Spanish Super Cup is scheduled to return to the Kingdom for its 2028 edition.
Istanbul was selected following a bidding process in which the Spanish federation considered seven proposals from different parts of the world.
Barcelona will arrive as defending champions. Hansi Flick’s side claimed the previous edition with a 3-2 victory over Real Madrid in the final in Jeddah.
The RFEF said the agreement for the 2027 edition would preserve the economic benefits the competition generates for Spanish football, with revenues distributed to nearly 1,000 men’s and women’s clubs across different divisions.
