Aston Martin will retain Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll as their drivers for the 2027 Formula 1 season, keeping the same line-up for a fifth consecutive campaign.
The announcement gives the team continuity as it works to recover from a difficult first season under Formula 1’s new technical regulations.
Aston Martin have scored just three points from the opening 15 races of 2026, while also beginning their new era as Honda’s works engine partner with Adrian Newey leading the car design program.
Alonso, who joined the team from Alpine in 2023, will continue his record-breaking career into a 24th F1 season. The two-time world champion has contested 440 Grands Prix and won 32, while Stroll will enter his ninth season with the Silverstone-based team.
Despite Aston Martin’s struggles this year, Alonso said he remains convinced by the project and wants to play a long-term role in its development.
“I took my time to make this decision, but racing is my life, my passion, and I know I still have the speed and determination to compete at the highest level,” Alonso said. “I’m committed for the long term with this team and to helping us succeed.”
Stroll, 27, also said he believes Aston Martin have the resources and personnel required to eventually challenge at the front of the grid.
“I’ve been on this journey since the beginning and I believe we have the resources and the people to become a winning team,” Stroll said.
The Canadian joined the team in 2019, when it was still known as Racing Point, and has remained part of the project through its transformation into Aston Martin. His father, Lawrence Stroll, is the team’s executive chairman and co-owner.
Lawrence Stroll said keeping both drivers was important as the team moves into its next phase.
“Lance and Fernando have been a crucial part of our journey and we are very pleased to confirm that they will continue with us into the next chapter for the team,” he said.
With Aston Martin now confirmed, only four seats remain open for the 2027 season at Racing Bulls and Haas.
Racing Bulls have yet to confirm either of their drivers, although Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad are considered candidates to stay.
Haas are expected to retain Oliver Bearman, while Esteban Ocon is set to leave the team at the end of the season. Ferrari-backed Formula 2 title leader Rafael Camara is among the potential candidates to replace the Frenchman.
