Isack Hadjar will remain with Red Bull for the 2027 Formula 1 season after agreeing to a contract extension, the team announced on Wednesday, September 23, ahead of this weekend’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

The Frenchman is currently eighth in the drivers’ championship with 71 points after making the step up to Red Bull earlier this season.

Hadjar joined Red Bull’s junior program in 2022 and progressed through Formula 3 and Formula 2 before moving into Formula 1.

After narrowly missing out on the 2024 Formula 2 title, he was promoted from his reserve role to a race seat with Racing Bulls for the following season.

His rookie campaign included his first F1 podium at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort, helping establish him as one of the team’s leading young drivers.

Hadjar subsequently moved up to Red Bull, replacing Yuki Tsunoda and taking on the challenge of racing alongside four-time world champion Max Verstappen. He has since collected several points finishes, including another podium at the Monaco Grand Prix.

The Frenchman’s progress was interrupted by a wrist injury that forced him to miss the last three Grands Prix.

“I am really excited to continue with Oracle Red Bull Racing,” Hadjar said. “I came to this team eight months ago and immediately understood the scale and ambition of this organization.

“There are so many talented people at the factory, and you’re aware of the privilege of driving for such an incredible team alongside a four-time World Champion like Max [Verstappen].”

“I’m constantly looking to listen, learn and push myself further every single day, which only makes me more excited about what lies ahead.”

Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies also backed the decision to keep Hadjar, pointing to his performances during what is only his second season in Formula 1.

“We’re very excited to continue our journey with Isack,” Mekies said. “Since joining us at the start of the year, he has been superb on and off track, especially considering this is only his second Formula 1 season, which made extending his contract an easy decision.”

Hadjar is set to return to competition at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, scheduled from 25-27 September, after missing the last three Grands Prix due to his wrist injury.
