Gessime Yassine made Moroccan football history Wednesday, becoming the Atlas Lions’ youngest-ever scorer at a World Cup.
The 20-year-old winger scored in Morocco’s 4-2 win over Haiti on June 24 in Atlanta, reaching the milestone at 20 years and 213 days.
The RC Strasbourg forward surpassed Youssef En-Nesyri, who had held the record since scoring against Spain at the 2018 World Cup at 21 years and 24 days old.
Playing in his first World Cup with Morocco’s senior team, the Under-20 world champion confirmed the promise he showed with the country’s youth sides.
After helping Morocco’s U20 team win the world title under Mohamed Ouahbi, Gessime has shown he can compete at the highest level with the senior national team.
The No. 16 remained on the bench against Brazil and Scotland but seized his chance in his first appearance at the 2026 World Cup, scoring his first World Cup goal for Morocco and underlining his ability to deliver on the biggest stage.
