In a statement published on its official website on July 19, the Jordan Football Association announced that Zaki has signed a one-year contract.
This appointment follows the federation’s executive committee accepting the resignation of Jamal Sellami and his entire coaching staff. The committee thanked them for their work, which concluded after Jordan’s group-stage exit from the 2026 World Cup.
Zaki and his coaching staff are set to be officially unveiled in the coming days. His primary task will be to guide the Nashama in their upcoming international competitions, with a particular focus on the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia from January 7 to February 5, 2027.
The 66-year-old boasts an extensive career as both a player and a coach. An iconic goalkeeper for the Atlas Lions, he was part of Morocco’s historic run at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico and was named African Footballer of the Year that same year.
As a coach, Zaki led Morocco to the final of the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations and has managed several Moroccan clubs, including Wydad Casablanca, FUS Rabat, and Ittihad Tanger. More recently, he coached the national teams of Sudan and Niger.
